BC Parks has suspended services at Saysutshun

BC Parks has advised us of the decision to suspend services at Saysutshun (Newcastle) Island Marine Park.

This includes the closure of our washrooms,Ferry, playgrounds and day-use facilities. During the COVID-19 outbreak we feel this is necessary to ensure the health and safety of visitors, employees, volunteers, park operators and their staff, and our park contractors. Our action is based on recommendations made by the Provincial Health Officer and the Minister of Health and aligns with Parks Canada and other Canadian park agencies.

Day-use services and facilities will remain available at this time in the following provincial parks:

•   Mount Seymour Provincial Park

•   Cypress Provincial Park

•   Goldstream Provincial Park

•   Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park

•   Miracle Beach Provincial Park

•   Wells Gray Provincial Park

Although our services and facilities are closed, the public may continue to access frontcountry and backcountry areas; however, visitors will be reminded that washroom facilities are closed, all garbage must be packed-out, and they will be responsible for their own safety.

All campgrounds, camping opportunities and accommodations will be closed until at least April 30; as we move through this crisis this closure date will be reviewed. Full refunds will automatically be provided to existing reservation holders during this time and given the volume of cancellations, we anticipate refunds to take 7-10 days for cancellation and refunds to be processed. The Discover Camping reservation system will be suspended for all new reservations for the foreseeable future

A public notice will be issued when this closure is lifted, and facilities are reopened and available for reservation.

Our advice to visitors is to continue following the Provincial Health Officer’s direction regarding social distancing and other health measures when they access provincial parks.

BC Parks and Saysutshun appreciate your understanding, cooperation, and support during this challenging time.
